The first month of our Interactive class we were assigned tasks that would assists us in developing an understanding of what Interactive design is and what processors were involved.
I have uploaded all 4 tasks.
Task #1
To develop a step by step text description on how to make toast.
Task #2

Task #4
Create a mood board for the following persona.
Johnny Smith
John is a 75-year-old retired carpenter who still enjoys hikes in national parks and ridding his Harley-Davidson. He looks forward to the local club raffle and a catch up with the boys on a Thursday evening. He also enjoys playing bingo, listening to local radio and watching old western movies with his wife Jill. As he gets older and has to visit the hospital more often, he prefers quick and efficient healthcare with simple, bold instructions and hospital signs. He aims to enjoy the rest of his life traveling a little and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Information / Instructional Design: Dictionary Definition
Information / Instructional Design is the practice of creating instructional tools and content to help facilitate learning most effectively. The process consists broadly of determining the current state and needs of the learner, defining the end goal of instruction, and creating some "intervention" to assist in the transition.

Information / Instructional design: My understanding
Instructional design is the process of analysing people, determining what there needs and goals are, then developing a delivery system to meet those needs. This includes the development of instructional tools, materials and activities.
The following are examples of Information / Instructional design:
The Sydney Street Directory
This street directory provides 2D maps of Sydneys roadways.
It has been designed for users to easily navigate around unfamiliar areas.
Street Signs
Traffic signs or road signs are positioned along side of roads to provide information quickly and efficiently to road users.
Electronic Train Timetables
Electronic train timetables are located at train stations which provide constant updates of train arrival times, along with what stops each train will be making.

Web 2.0: Dictionary Definition
Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. Web 2.0 basically refers to the transition from static HTML web pages to a more dynamic Web that is more organized and is based on serving Web applications to users. Other improved functionality of Web 2.0 includes open communication with an emphasis on Web-based communities of users, and more open sharing of information. Over time Web 2.0 has been used more as a marketing term than a computer-science-based term. Blogs, wikis, and Web services are all seen as components of Web 2.0.

Web 2.0: My understanding:
Web 2.0 has to do with the current movement of the internet. The way in which this data uploaded via Web 1.0 is being shared amongst people. The simple question that drove this movement being “How can I take this data and share it with other people?”. Since this question was asked, sites have popped up all over the internet trying to answer this question. The most adopted solution involves the idea of social networking which is to create a community of members each responsible for contributing information to the rest of the users. Other approaches to solve this question included the development and utilization of web services. These services allow you to integrate data between sites through API’s (Application Programming Interface) such as you see on sites Flickr and Amazon.

The following sites are examples of Web 2.0:
Youtube – Video File Sharing
Facebook – Text / Picture / Video File Sharing
Ebay – Text / Picture Sharing
The reason why these are web 2.0 examples is because members of these sites are able to communicate between each other, post all types of data and receive all types of data including text, pictures, movies and music, all whilst being online the world wide web.

Web 1.0
Web 1.0 was created during the beginning of the internet. When the internet was first created its primary use was taking print media and posting it online. This meant books, news, music etc was moved into a digital format. This movement continues today and might never stop because as new data becomes available it needs to be uploaded to become available online. These days the majority of the world has shifted focus toward data integration due to there not being much innovation remaining in posting data online, which brings us to Web 2.0.

Interactive Design: Dictionary Definition
Interaction Design is the discipline of defining the behavior of products and systems that a user can interact with. The practice typically centers around complex technology systems such as software, mobile devices, and other electronic devices. However, it can also apply to other types of products and services, and even organizations themselves. Interaction design defines the behavior (the "interaction") of an artifact or system in response to its users.

Interactive Design: My Understanding
Interactive design is concerned with the behaviour of products or systems. How that product or system works and how people can interact with it. A lot of an interaction designer's time will be spent defining these behaviours.
I have found that the best definition of interactive design is given by a man called Mr Bill Verplanks. I have provided the following link if you wish to watch and listen. http://www.designinginteractions.com/interviews/BillVerplank
Great Web Design Examples
http://www.chocetteszone.com/main.asp
http://www.hollo.com.br/flash/
http://www.johnnyddesign.net/whois.php
The great sites above share the following design features:
-Simple layout
-Centered orientation
-Design the content, not the page
-3D effects, used sparingly
-Soft, neutral background colours
-Strong colour, used sparingly
-Cute icons, used sparingly
-Plenty of white space
-Nice big text
Each site has its own creative flare on how to navigate around the website. I believe by having this creative flar on how to interactive with the website encourages the user to stay on that site for a longer periode of time, this is simply because it makes the experiance more interesting, comparing to the websites that have the standard Click Here links.

Hey everyone my name is Peter, this is my first time creating a blog which makes this my first post. I have already put some information up along side of the page that explains why I have created this page and what I hope to gain from it. Just to recap, my intentions through establishing this blog is to gain experience in having an online presence and learn more about the World Wide Web and how people can and do interact with it. So over the next few weeks I will be posting and writing about my finding. Hope you find them useful too.
